South Carolina Lawns:
Climatic areas of South Carolina is very
similar to North Carolina with the exception that western Mountain
areas of S.C. are not as cool and coastal areas are slightly
warmer than N.C. You can divide South Carolina
into two geographical regions; Western (NE) half is
"Piedmont" and Eastern (SE) half is Coastal areas. The
western part of Coastal area adjoining the Piedmont is often
called "Sandhills".

NC has many areas that are similar in
adaptation to same grasses grown in South Carolina.
Bermudagrass & Centipedegrass and
Zoysia are used throughout the state. Bahiagrass is
often planted in coastal plains areas and is especially adapted
for the poor soils of Sandhills region. St. Augustine is
also used, especially in coastal areas of the state.
Carpetgrass can be used in moist areas. Tall Fescue should
be limited in use to the more cooler / Northeastern areas of the
state due to its in-tolerance to high summer temperatures.
Ryegrasses are normally used to overseed Bermudagrass throughout
the state.
